How did we get here?
Animals were the one constant throughout my life, and from an early age I learned that trust isn’t given, it’s earned through patience, consistency, and understanding.
I began my education studying interior design, graduating with a degree that refined my eye for detail, structure, and creative thinking. But as someone who has always been driven to think beyond the conventional, I quickly realised that a traditional office environment didn’t align with who I am. I needed something more hands-on, more dynamic, something that allowed me to work intuitively, solve problems in real time, and build meaningful connections. Most importantly something where I could spend more time with my own dogs at the time.
That pull toward a more purposeful, creative path ultimately led me to work with dogs, where no two days are the same and thinking outside the box isn’t just valuable, it’s essential.
My experience as a professional
My journey working professionally with dogs began over three years ago when I started my own dog walking business. What began as a way to spend more time around dogs quickly evolved into something far more meaningful. I found myself naturally becoming curious about the behaviours I was seeing on every walk, why one dog pulled while another stayed close, why some were reactive, and others completely at ease. That curiosity led me to begin introducing small elements of training into our walks, building focus, engagement, and trust in real, everyday environments.
Over time, those moments of observation turned into a deeper pursuit of understanding. I became increasingly interested in breed-specific traits, how genetics, instinct, and purpose shape behaviour and how true fulfilment plays a crucial role in a dog’s wellbeing. I realised that lasting results don’t come from obedience alone, but from meeting a dog’s needs at their core. What started as dog walking became the foundation for a more intentional, informed approach to training, one that was rooted in understanding, fulfilment, and trust.
Everything changed when I rescued my dog Logan. Like many rescue dogs, he came with complex challenges that couldn’t be solved with quick fixes or one-size-fits-all training. Wanting to give my dog the best life possible, I immersed myself in learning, observing, and understanding why dogs do what they do.
I had the opportunity of working alongside an established dog training company where I gained invaluable hands-on experience working with a wide range of behavioural cases as a Dog Trainer. This experience and position allowed me to refine my approach, working with dogs of different temperaments, backgrounds, and challenges.
Fast forward to 2026 Rooted Dog Training was born. My approach is grounded in relationship based training, compassion, and the understanding that learning never truly stops for dogs or for humans.
